I want to build muscle endurance for my quads, calves, hamstrings, and arms by lifting weights for these. But should I lift with more reps and medium weights? Or more reps and light weights?

I know for sure that I should not lift with high weights and low reps yet because that’s just for power, and I don’t need that right now.

And how many reps and sets should I do…I already do isometrics for these muscles every night and takes a total of about 1hr, 15mins. Thanks

Medium weights with medium reps is what endurance trainers need. You’re not just trying to tone, and you’re certainly not trying to bulk up, so something in between is best.

Follow the “progressive loading” method. And don’t overdo the frequency of your workouts – you need to give your muscles a chance to repair themselves before stressing them out again.

Im pretty strong, and i would be in much better shape if my lungs were up to pace. I plan on joining either the army or marines with some form of infantry and eventually some kind of SOF. But not till i finish two years of college.

Well when you exercise do your drills with intensity. Don’t do 20 push ups, stop for a minute and then do sit ups. Do as many push ups as possible, as fast as you can, then IMMEDIATELY do a sprint, then do sit ups quickly. These are just examples. Keep your muscles working at 100% non stop for a long period of time.
*if you want to hold your breath longer inhale 100%, then slowly release 10% of that air, then re-inhale 110%. That’s called cracking your lungs.

I’d stay away from weight lifting. In Spec Ops training the buff guys are normally the first ones to go. Keep hard into max interval training using only your body as the resistance. Work on alot of cardio and calisthenics. I recommend “Insanity” over “P90X”. Insanity actually gives you more endurance than P90X. Plus you don’t have to go out and buy all this other stuff just to do the workouts. In Spec Ops training if candidates can’t handle using their own body as the resistance then they won’t last. Weight lifting is one of the smallest things guys will do during training because adding muscle only meanings adding weight. This means most of the big “football” sports from highschool and college are some of the least likely to make it through those pipelines.

Okay, so I made a bet with a few friends, we each have a target zone that we have to shape up, and my target zone is my thigh/hip area.
I’m 140 lbs, 5’6″, and a teenager.
I’ve been doing zumba for the past 2 months, 1-3 times a week, so full body exercises are welcome just as much as thigh/hip.
Workouts routines, specific toning exercises, and diet tips would be awesome.

1. Young teenagers should train with moderately heavy weights and mature teenagers can train with heavy weights.

2. Cardiovascular training is equally important and I suggest you do at least 10 minutes of warm up everyday.

3. Train with high repetition and low weights. General recommendation is 10-15 reps per set.

4. Do only the best Muscle mass and strength builders like compound multi-joint exercises – Bench Press, Squats and Deadlifts are key exercises. You can add the Advanced Weight Training principles later on.

5. Train the whole body. Never neglect any body part. You need bigger legs and strong back in addition to bigger arms and chest.

6. You can add sports specific training to the general exercise routines to build specific muscles required by your kind of sport.

7. Eat well and eat more. When you are exercising quality nutrition is utmost important. Eat high quantities of proteins, complex carbohydrates, multivitamins and minerals.

Being active is always a good thing. There is a such thing as too much though. As long as it is not an obssession or it has gotten to the point where it takes over your life like an addiction everything should be fine. Some people have worked out so much it has caused health problems, but this would take a lot. Anything in moderation is okay no matter how intense the workout. As long as you aren’t pregnant or have another health condition keeping you from doing what you wish. Hello everyone, My names Anthony and I’m in need of tips and ideas on how I can gain muscle mass.
I am roughly 65 Kgs / 143 pounds
170 Cm tall / 6 foot 7 i guess.
and Im 16 years old.

I am a very fit guy and do extremely well in endurance tests. Scored 12 flat in the beep test.
I play a variety of sports which takes up most days. ( Friday, saturday sunday.)
I’m not anorexic skinny but i am quite thin.
If my shirts off you can faintly see an outline of a Six pack so im not sure of my body fat percentage.

Basically i know the method that people take. It’s to calculate the calories you burn per day and eat more calories than that.
But actually do Gym so it doesn’t become fat.
I’ve done a rough calculation and i burn about 2300 calories a day.
The two main problems is that i eat whatever my parents cook me and the second is that i don’t have access to a gym to actually turn the fat into muscle.
I don’t have access to really anything. No dumbbells. Only thing i can really do is push ups / sit ups.

I have tested my push up ability and i can do roughly 50.

Is there anyway i can build muscle mass and lose body fat percentage without a gym?

I don’t really follow pop music, and I am not a fan of Shakira. I recently fell asleep with the TV on MTV, and when I woke up, her video about how her hips don’t lie was on.

I looked her up, and was able to find some biographical information. I know she is of mixed heritage. My question is did she study belly dancing?

She has a nice figure, of course, but her stomach is interesting. I have only seen stomachs with that particular kind of muscle structure on belly dancers. I have seen plenty of music videos with girls showing their tummies, but I don’t recall seeing any other dancers with that particular shape. It’s kind of hard to describe, but it is an unusual kind of muscular development. Could you please enlighten me if you know more about her?

I think he sound a bit boring. Well first of all, I think if he got kicked out by his father because he was a bi sexual you should consider him having a crush on a boy instead of a girl. Second, I think you should avoid all the teen novel clichés like the friend group splitting from each other and his crush thinking he is a loser.
I think you should completely loose the character Mia, and instead have him go through a rough patch after he gets kicked out, and having him ending up in a juvenile prison, which can be the setting for most of the story. You can also go overboard with the tongue piercing, you know have him have tatoos and stuff.
OR you could only change one simple detail in the story. Like you could do some research about Down Syndrome or something like that(doesn’t have to be down syndrome) and still keep the plot, and also tell the story from aunt Mia’s point of view and the struggle she has to go through to take care of a “difficult” teenager

I thank you very much for this question because i had just got back yesterday from a clinic in southeast Idaho, to write a paper about the busiest weight loss practice in the region.

The way they attacked obesity AND I QUOTE what they told me “Muscle is the secret to not only what we all strive for, but the solution to the obesity problem” i strongly belief in that and have seen greet results on my clients(i’m an educated trainer).

As outlined in many excellent fitness articles on the internet, total energy outflow is the sum of resting energy expenditure (REE), the thermic effect of food (TEF) and the energy used related to exercise (TEE). Under most circumstances, REE is the largest component of total energy expenditure (2).

A number of factors direct REE such as your age, height, genetics, environmental temperature and muscle mass, the only controllable one of the list is your muscle mass. Muscles control REE by the synthesis and break down of muscle protein, so the more muscle you have, the more turnover, the greater number of calories expended.

NOW what that means is that the more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn. That is a fact and that is the best way to eat at ur stubborn fat storage thats been there for years.

Im in the p90x program and dont follow the nutrition guide because the food they recommend is expensive. I eat bananas constantly and meat once in a while for protein. So with that said, what is the best fruit to eat while on a muscle building diet if i had to choose only one fruit? pro answers please or ill flag simple kid answers.

I’m a female vegetarian and I’m interested in natural bodybuilding for women. Can it be done?

I don’t eat meat and I want to build muscles on my body but I want to stay feminine and not take any drugs like steroids or human growth hormones. Can it be done and how do I start?

Yes it can be done. I know a woman who is a holistic doctor who did it. She is a vegetarian and she build muscles on her body to show her patients that muscles can be created without eating meat. She looks very feminine and her muscle are similar to track athlete. The first time I saw her was at a natural bodybuilding competition 3 years ago in Atlanta, Georgia. She won first place in her division and received an invitation to compete in professional bodybuilding instead of amateur. Her name is Akilah. She’s super nice and easy to talk to.

You may want to contact her to learn how she did it. I eat meat and tried to do the whole bodybuilding thing but it didn’t work for me. I don’t have the motivation yet to keep it going. I think she also has a “how to” blog on her website that you can read and ask questions. Here is a link to look at her pictures. As you can see her muscles are not HUGE like a man but they are eye catching and appealing for a woman.

Why do women start bodybuilding?

After a survey I did for a local group of people, I found out that 90 women out of 100 say that they dislike the sight of a female bodybuilder. While such a majority of women dislike female bodybuilders, why do female bodybuilders, being women, even start bodybuilding when theres such a negative view on it?

A few factors come into play here:

1.) When talking about women and looks, the only look tolerated in mainstream society seems to be one bent on being too skinny.

2.) The biggest, heaviest female bodybuilders i.e. Nicole Bass or Linda Murray pop into people’s minds when they think of female bodybuilders. The reality is the heavy weight female bodybuilders are rare and most female bodybuilders weigh less than 160lbs., the more typical female bodybuilder, usually resembles more of a cut fitness type, than a woman who looks like she is ready to try out for football.

3.) The whole bodybuilding culture itself is somewhat of an eccentric sub culture in society and most of the people who participate in it or follow it religiously, think outside the box to begin with, so they might already anticipate negative views to begin with.

Women & Bodybuilding….Your point of view!?

I’m seriously considering taking up Female Bodybuilding with the view to entering at competition level.
I hear comments from different people & often those comments can be on the negative side.
Admittently I have seen some Female Bodybuilders that look more like Men in drag, but I’ve also seen some that still look very feminine & sexy. Negative comments more often than not tend to come from Women, & most of those with such opinions tend to be unfit & un-toned. I really would like to know what you Guys think of a female with muscle….I’m not talking Arnie here.
I don’t have a downer on other Women by the way, So this ones for the Gals too.

Jooooo, you took a guess at the possibility that I liked Guys with Bodybuilding frames…..funny enough, I don’t. My Husband is not into Bodybuilding at all & probably never will be. I love him just as he is. This is just something that I’m interested in.

To the person that felt Bodybuilding is all about having a low self esteem, I understand your point of view, but for me that isn’t actually the case. However if someone felt it would help them in gaining self confidence, surely that would be a plus. Quite honestly it takes a fair bit of self esteem to even embark on a project such as this.

Thanks also to all those concerned about the steroid issue. I understand the point you’re all making & have taken your comments on board. Steroids are not an option for me though… as I have seen a friend go down that road & lose their life as a result.

In the long run, it should be about what makes you happiest – doing anything because you think men/women will approve is just going to cause issues further down the line.

But, you asked for an opinion, so…

I have met only one man that liked body-building women – most men find it a real turn-off (I think it’s an inferiority complex thing). However, I would imagine men who are into body-building are more likely to like women with that look (and I hazard a guess they are the type of men you like, too?)

Women bodybuilders do tend towards looking a bit manly, but this is often to do with taking steroids. This causes a deepening of the voice, growing more body and facial hair and heart problems later in life. Steroids should be completely avoided, and if you don’t think you can withstand the pressure to take steroids in what is a very competitive ‘sport’, then maybe bodybuilding is not for you.

All in all, I would recommend you think about what are your reasons for choosing this path and weigh up the pros and cons, and make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons (ie, not doing it to impress others). And if you do decide to go for it, good luck!
